Domestic Fire Extinguishers

Even if your car has all the latest gadgets, sat nav, leather seats and in-car DVDs, the one thing no vehicle should be without is - a car fire extinguisher.

Car fire extinguishers are compact versions of the familiar fire extinguishers found in business premises. Two types of extinguishers are suitable for use in a car, a powder fire extinguisher, or a foam fire extinguisher. Since a foam extinguisher must NOT be used on any electrics, we recommend a powder extinguisher.

A 1kg powder extinguisher is suitable for use on most types of fires that break out in cars, boats, vans, or caravans, namely Class A, B and C fires. For example, burning upholstery would create a Class A fire, burning fuel a Class B fire, and burning gas from a caravan stove a Class C fire.

Only ever tackle a small fire in your vehicle. If in doubt, move well away to a safe distance, and call the Fire Brigade immediately.
