Hardwired to the main fire alarm panel, smoke and heat detectors are an essential part of a fire alarm system.

When triggered, the detector sends a signal to the main fire alarm panel, which then activates the alarms, warning everyone of an emergency. That then enables staff and visitors to make a safe and swift exit.

By having a mixture detector sensor types in your fire alarm system, you create a more reliable system. It allows for detectors in a variety of different environments protecting against different extremes of fire.

They are ideal for use within the workplace or in rental properties.

Smoke Detectors

There are two types of smoke detector available. Just like your standard battery alarms, they either use an optical or ionisation sensor inside the detector.

In an ionisation detector, smoke alters the radioactive charge of particles inside the chamber. This is picked up and causes the detector to send a signal.

With optical detectors, smoke reflects light onto a sensor from an LED inside the unit. This, in turn, sends a signal as well.

Heat Detectors

Thermistors inside a heat detector respond to rapid temperature rises, or when they reach a pre-set temperature.

These are ideal for areas where a smoke alarm could not go. Such places include dusty or smoky environments, or where you might expect a lot of steam.

Bases

Separate detector bases allow you to provide additional functionality. These can include a sounder which will allow your detector to also signal an alarm.

They also have a system in place which means the main control panel is alerted should a detector get removed.
