A conventional fire alarm system is ideal for a use in a small building. A loop goes around every zone connected to call points and detectors, with a separate wiring loop connecting beacons and sounds around the whole building.

When a detector or call point is set off, this sends a signal to the control panel. In turn, this sends a signal to all the beacons, sounders and fire bells which will then operate. But the control panel will also register the zone where it was triggered. For example, this would allow the fire services to know exactly where to find the potential fire in the building.

The control panel is the main hub for the whole system. It controls the whole operation of the system, and it’s where you will also go when you need to control it yourself.
