Essential for when you’re working in noisy environments, Earplugs help to reduce high noise levels and frequencies to prevent temporary or permanent hearing damage. It’s important to select the correct level of protection, as well as what’s right for the task at hand and your own personal preference.
We sell different types of earplugs, some which are disposable and others which are reusable. Some are connected to each other so you can’t lose them, and the detectable ones feature a metal insert which are ideal for food processing environments.
We have hearing protection from a choice of manufacturers, including Moldex who are trusted brand who create reliable and long-lasting protective equipment.
Earplugs work effectively because they literally plug the gap of your ear canal. Made of a slow-recovery, expandable foam, you then roll them between thumb and forefinger to compress it. To insert, reach over your head to pull your ear up gently to allow you to slide the earplug in, and hold in place for a few seconds while it expands to plug the gap.
It’s essential to know the exposure levels before purchasing any type of hearing protection. You should look out for the SNR value, which is the number of potential decibels the hearing protection will reduce the noise levels by when worn correctly.
The ultimate purpose is to reduce sound levels to a safe level, ideally between 70 and 80 decibels. And just as it is important to reduce sound levels, you need to ensure you’re not over protecting as this can result in the wearer not hearing important everyday sounds, including the fire alarm.
For example, an average sound level of 113 decibels would require earplugs with at least an SNR value 34, in order to bring the in-ear exposure level down to 79dB.
