Smoke and fire dampers are installed where heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) ducting goes through a wall or ceiling in order to prevent the spread of smoke and fire. Our range is available in sizes from 100mm to 355mm, for 24V and 230V systems, and are designed to fit most circular ducting in the UK. That’s why it’s the market leader.

ES-rated in accordance with EN 13501-3 and fully compliant with product standard EN 15650:2010, these will automatically shut when a fire is present. As a result, the fire rating of walls and ceilings are not compromised, stopping fire for up to two hours, keeping emergency exits clear, protecting lives and reducing damage to property. However, in normal conditions, air circulation is unrestricted.

How Do Fire Dampers Work?

Featuring a stainless steel blade, when this is in the closed position, it creates the fire and smoke barrier. Featuring an electrical thermal release, the damper is automatically activated when temperatures reach 72°C but also features an inbuilt fail-safe which closes the barrier whenever the power supply is interrupted.

The Actuator, which controls the damper, is supplied fitted and requires wiring into your system and is then wired into your existing system via the control mode. Each damper has a green LED lamp built in, as standard, giving the user a simple and clear visual check that everything is operating correctly. Plus, it features a manual test switch to check the fail-safe release under smoke and fire conditions.

Installation and Maintenance

As with any other work which is carried out to your HVAC systems, the fire and smoke damper should be installed and maintained by a qualified engineer. The damper is suitable for installation through most wall, floor and ceiling types of rigid construction, including masonry, concrete, block work and drywall.

Regular inspection, maintenance and cleaning of your dampers are essential, in line with the entire ducting system, which is undertaken by a qualified engineer as part of the requirements of BS 9999. As such, you must ensure adequate access is provided to fire and smoke dampers with access panels and doors.

Selecting The Right ES-Rated Damper

CSS Dampers are designed for applications in normal dry filtered air systems and are suitable for standard or 50mm insulated circular ductwork. Firstly, you need to ensure you select the power voltage which is compatible with your existing HVAC system, either AC/DV 24V or AV 230V.

Secondly, when selecting the size, this relates to the diameter of the ducting. With sizes available to suit most systems, every size is fully compliant to the relevant standards.

Approvals

Manufactured in the UK by market-leaders Actionair, they’re ISO9001 and ISO14001 accredited, producing dampers which are CE Marked and are an LPCB approved product.

Fully compliant with product standard EN 15650:2010, the smoke and fire damper is ES-rated in accordance with EN 13501-3, corrosion tested to EN 60068-2-52, thermal fused tested to ISO 10294-4, and fire tested to EN 1366-2. Plus, every damper undergoes a continuous program of cyclic and leakage testing to ensure quality.

Please Note: Due to their specialist nature, the circular smoke and fire damper is not available on our standard next working service. Please expect delivery within 5-8 working days.
