Specialised fire extinguishers have been created for special types of fires, in particular Class D fires involving metals.

It is easy to assume that such fires must be confined to particular manufacturing or laboratories, as with lithium fires. However, aluminium dust and swarf can also burn, so a Class D fire could occur at any location where aluminium is drilled, milled or cut.

Specialist Fire Extinguishers for Class D Fires

One of the greatest problems of Class D fires is how to extinguish them without spraying the often lightweight metal over a larger area, by the force of the extinguisher. The 9kg M28 powder fire extinguisher has been especially designed with a low velocity nozzle to prevent this happening, and can be used on all metal fires except those involving lithium. Lithium fires should only be tackled with a 9kg L2 fire extinguisher, which also has a distinctive long low velocity nozzle.

Monnex fire extinguishers are extremely powerful and effective, with an impressive 233B rating. It is the perfect fire extinguisher for any area where quick suppression of flames is vital, such as heliports, airports, race tracks, flammable liquid stores or fuel stores.

In areas where strong magnetic fields are present, such as MRI scanner rooms, it is essential that any fire safety equipment is not attracted to a magnet. The non-magnetic CO2 fire extinguisher from Easy Fire Safety is non-magnetic and anti-static throughout, and is easily identified by its bright blue trigger levers. The CO2 fire fighting agent will not damage sensitive electrical equipment either.
